Our Values

Users First

We work closely with our users to develop an app that really improves their life and work.

Open Source

We believe in cooperation that allows as many people as possible to benefit from innovations in the healthcare sector.

Data Protection

For us, data protection means data minimization. Health data is only stored on the users’ devices.

For whom does Recovery Cat work?

For
Patients

Recognize your own strengths We help patients to better understand the connections between their symptoms, their own abilities, and their medication, and to recognize a crisis on their own at an early stage. Every illness is unique, and dealing with it is complex and individual. With Recovery Cat, patients can set their own goals together with their practitioners. This allows them to design their own treatment in order to best implement their recovery plan step by step.

Together at eye level Cooperation between doctors and patients is the most important pillar of good treatment. To develop a trusting exchange in the often hectic daily practice is particularly challenging. Recovery Cat creates the basis for making the most of a time-limited treatment appointment. This leaves more room to talk about truly important things, to build empathy and understanding.

The path to recovery Mental health crises often go hand in hand with suffering, despair, worry, and existential hardship – but at the same time with a variety of lived experiences, a wealth of self-knowledge, and diverse coping strategies. Recovery Cat broadens the view to our own strengths and resources to help patients recover step by step from a serious mental health diagnosis.

For
Practitioners

Design therapy goals cooperatively With Recovery Cat, practitioners and patients can create a digital treatment plan in just a few minutes. Together, they set customized goals and enable the patients to record symptoms, medication, and side effects. An introduction to the personalized app is also part of the appointment.

Promoting self-management Patients improve their own self-management by tracking symptoms between two treatment appointments. This enables them to recognize and understand early warning signs, side effects, and symptom changes early enough to react appropriately.

Individual and tailor-made Patient-centered language contributes significantly to the success of treatment. Instead of using medical terminology that is difficult for non-experts to understand, it is always possible to rephrase questions to meet the patient’s needs or to customize them together. Due to the possible adaptations, Recovery Cat is open to a large number of indications and special features. The guideline-oriented approach can strengthen adherence and self-efficacy.

For
Clinics

Making everyday clinical work easier We developed Recovery Cat from within the clinic because we ourselves wanted to work in a more modern way. Our software supports practitioners in their daily tasks such as therapy planning and documentation, which reduces the administrative workload and creates more time for the actual therapeutic work.

Simple and intuitive Recovery Cat can be integrated quickly and intuitively, with minimal training and without lengthy installation. Thanks to the browser-based technology, it is ready to be used within a few days with existing devices, regardless of the operating system (PC, laptop, tablet, etc.). The PDF function allows exporting documentation into all common PVS/HIS systems. The security of sensitive health data is a particular priority, which is why we try to minimize data and to store it locally.

Increasing the quality of care Recovery Cat supports the treatment of patients as well as it relieves clinicians in their daily work. As a permanent therapy companion, it creates a strong connection to the treatment team, while it also promotes the patients’ self-management and adherence between treatment appointments. By recognizing emerging crises at an early stage, it is easier to respond to them.

How it works
About us

Clinical Background

Recovery Cat was a project of the Prototype Fund and later part of the Digital Health Accelerator of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH). Following the successful completion of the program, Recovery Cat GmbH was launched in 2022 as an official Charité spin-off. The development from within the Charité has great advantages for us because we can be in constant contact with the users. A feasibility study was launched at two centers: the Psychiatric Institute Outpatient Clinic (PIA) at Charité Campus Mitte and the Theodor Wenzel Werk. A regular patient board supports us with feedback on app features, design, and language.

Our team and our mission

We develop Recovery Cat from within the clinic. We are a team of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, techies, and designers from Berlin. By improving psychiatric treatment, we want to enable people with severe mental illness to lead a self-determined life in the long term.
